A Peek Into Several European Countries
By: Jordan Locke
As I wrote earlier on Norway. Immigration is a very big issue, being that Norway’s Anti-Immigration party just got into office. But the UN is pushing that Migration within the European Union must include a human rights approach. Seeing the migrants as individuals. Most countries are very concerned with security and don’t think of the migrants crossing borders as individuals but more as threats.
We can see this paralleled in the United States. With the ever growing Mexican American population there are many new rules for immigrants. For instance in Arizona, any policeman can ask to see your papers to see if you are actually a citizen. This promotes racial profiling and definitely not trying to see the migrants as individuals.
Western Europe is very good about Human Rights but this is probably the one big human rights violation they deal with today. It’s good to have another governmental body to check even the most righteous countries.
